SUFFOLK COUNTY ASIAN AMERICAN ADVISORY BOARD

Wellbrook Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1989 with the mission, as stated in the charter of incorporation in part, a) to encourage the interest of Asian Americans in active participation of community services and civic affairs, b) To promote mutual understanding, social harmony, and peace through cultural exchange, dissemination of knowledge, and education, and c) To promote economic and business development for Asian Americans.
Among many other activities, Wellbrook Foundation a) has raised fund to build a girl elemental school in Gaizhou, China, b) provided scholarships in four countries, c) supported and worked with Suffolk County Executive's Asian American Advisory Board (AAAB) of Suffolk County, NY on Chinese new year celebration, Asian American festivals, and Asian Pacific cultural program in Suffolk County to promote social harmony, mutual understanding and peace, d) Applied and received funding from New York state Health Department to co-sponsor community health fairs in Suffolk County with AAAB and Tzu Chi Foundation, e) partially funded and helped setting up a soup kitchen in Huntington Station area co-sponsored by Tzu Chi Foundation and a catholic church, and f) In 2008, provided seed funding of US $5,000 to help build a worship hall for Skadang Presbyterian Church in Hua-Lien, Taiwan.
As part of the funding, in addition to fund raising from public, Wellbrook Foundation has received royalties from the two books a) 12th edition of Cane Sugar Handbook (about 1,000 pages), b) the 1st edition of Handbook of Sugar Refining (about 800 pages) , both co-authored and edited by Dr Chung chi Chou and published by the world renowned John Wiley & Sons, Inc. of New York. As part of “transfer of technologies to next generation” programs. In 1993, Wellbrook Foundation funded and published the Chinese edition of 12th edition of Cane Sugar handbook to help develop global sugar industry, particularly in the Far East, including China and Taiwan, focusing on energy savings and environmental protection for our planet earth.
Recent activities involve helping the Taiwanese aborigines, via Yu Shan theological college and Seminary, to educate the young generation: a) raised, via donation and pledges, about US $ 100,000 scholarship to be awarded over 10 years period. Since 2007, a total of USD $38,400 scholarship has been awarded to about 30 Seminary students, b) Initiated and assisted in fund raising concert tours by the Seminary Naruwan Choir in Taiwanese Churches in USA, and later expanded to Canada and Germany, and c) organized and sponsored a leadership seminar at the Seminary.
For the summer of 2010, Wellbrook is pleased to offer an internship position to Ms Nancy Lin, a MBA student at Stony Brook University, to complete a corporate proposal for the community development of Agricultural organic farming for Taiwan aborigines. The project includes, but not limited to, leadership development, positive cultural enhancement, fund raising and micro-financing proposal, training, production, development of products distribution network, and marketing, etc. to help Taiwan aborigines in Taiwan to grow organic agricultural products with a goal to create 1,000 jobs for Aborigines in 10 years.
